There’s so much going on in Peckham this festive season, we had to limit ourselves to just five or this blog would have been never ending… here are five things to do during the Christmas holidays in SE15.
1. Shop local!
The neighbourhood is packed full of independent stores, makers, creators and boutiques. Pop into SAGE Flowers next to Peckham Rye and pick up some blooms, then head over to Bellenden Road where Gather will stock your home with all the essentials without the uneccessary packaging.
If you want to eat sustainably over Christmas, visit Flock & Herd butchers to buy meat with a conscience, then to the General Store for one of their Christmas hampers (perfect last minute gift). If you forgot to sort an outfit for your Christmas party or need a last minute pressie for a pal, Form will have you covered! Or buy them a coffee subscription from Old Spike Roastery and support their mission to get people off London’s streets. Treat yourself to an eyebrow makeover at Bambrows in Holdron’s Arcade, before feasting at vegan restaurant Deserted Cactus and picking up some South London made unisex clothing or zines from the very talented folk at Childsdraw.
2. Treat your dog this Christmas
There’s no better way to say Merry Christmas to your four-legged friend than by bringing them to Near & Far’s Club Puppicana Christmas special! In collaboration with LEVELSIX Cafe, they’ll be serving up a family and dog-friendly brunch this Saturday from 1-4pm. Tickets are £14pp for brunch only (or £32pp to go bottomless) and can be purchased here. Dog treats and pawsecco included!
3. Catch a festive movie at Peckham Plex
Everyone’s favourite cinema will be open throughout Christmas, closing only on Christmas Day itself. With tickets at just £4.99, you can’t beat Peckham Plex for a bit of family-friendly entertainment…
4. Pick up some old Christmas records from Rye Wax
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a bit of Bing Crosby on the record player. Head to Rye Wax in Copeland Park and delve through their collection of vinyl records – wrap some up for family and friends or just add to your own music collection! And whilst you’re there, tuck into some Dominican food from the team at Boca Chica who have taken over the Rye Wax restaurant.
5. Celebrate the end of 2019 in style here at Peckham Levels
We’ll be going all night (well, until 3am) here at Peckham Levels this New Year’s Eve. Join us on 31st December to watch the city skyline light up with fireworks, and dance our way into 2020. Near & Far Bar will be serving up cocktails, Lady Godiva Bars have the beers and we’ve got plenty of food from our street food vendors on Level Six. No tickets required, but get here early, with free entry and a line up like ours it is sure to be a busy one.
Line up: Jordds // AAA // RBC // Hasani // 079ME
Or join Peckham Gallery for their Wiggle Wiggle NYE Special. Celebrating 25 years of sillybrations, the line up includes Colin Dale, Terry Francis, Nathan Coles, Eddie Richards and more to be announced. Only 350 tickets available, so get a wiggle on!
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
