Andreas Hudelmayer at Peckham Levels

Andreas Hudelmayer is a maker of violins, violas and cellos.

It’s been incredible discovering the variety of local, creative talent right on our doorstep. The eclectic mix of creators and small businesses’ spanning our studios is pretty special. We’re excited to introduce you to the very first member who signed on the dotted line, welcome Andreas Hudelmayer. Maker of Violins, Violas and Cellos.

We asked Andreas, how it all begun:

“Opening my own studio was the culmination of a dream I first had in a dull history lesson as a teenager. Back then, I thought violin making would be the perfect combination of my interests: music, engineering and woodwork. 20 years on, I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Andreas’ journey to London began in South Germany, where he grew up in a big, noisy, music-loving family. He moved to the UK to study at the Newark School of Violin Making

Next stop, Berlin. He spent three years as a maker and restorer and in 1997 he was appointed Workshop Head at the London shop Frederick Phelps. He spent five “enjoyable” years working with London players, teachers, students and supervising a team of talented workshop staff.

The creations Andreas produces will be totally unique within Peckham Levels and no doubt, within Peckham as a whole. We can’t wait to hear him play!

Following the government’s latest advice on COVID19, it is with a heavy heart that in addition to fully closing our doors to the public, your local food traders will now be ceasing all food deliveries until further notice.

This is a difficult time for many, including our project and the 162 small, independent & incredible businesses who call Peckham Levels home. We will be looking at ways in which we can continue to give them the platform they need during this uncertain period. By following us on our socials or signing up to our newsletter, we can collectively look at ways to support Members and local traders.

We will provide updates as soon as we can.

Much love,

Peckham Levels Team x
