All ceramics courses cover a range of hand building technique as well as throwing on the wheel. The Kiln Rooms teachers have a wealth of experience and are all practicing ceramicists themselves. The most popular classes include:
– One-off taster session: Get your hands dirty during this fun introduction to clay!
– Beginners 4 week taster course: Learn a variety of skills and come away with a number of finished pieces.
– 12 week course: Suitable for both beginners & intermediates, spend time developing your own projects / ideas in a supportive and nurturing environment.
In June 2015 The Kiln Rooms opened their first studio in Copeland Park, where they quickly sold out. In March 2017 they opened their second studio just 5 minutes walk away from Bellenden Road. Both of these open access studio have a strong sense of community and provide membership for both enthusiastic hobbyists and professionals. As demand for classes has increased we have decided to open a third teaching space in Peckham Levels to meet demand and encourage people to give ceramics a go.
Neither studio could run without a strong sense of community and the willingness of members to share equipment, knowledge and get involved in the day to day running of the spaces. There is also a small team of experienced ceramicists who act as mentors, studio managers and also teach. The co-founders are: Stuart Carey (Technical Director) and Ben Cooper (Operations Director) who met at the Royal College of Art.
