Playdate Office will participate in ‘Now Play This’ at Somerset House as a part of the three-day games festival returns for the city-wide London Games Festival.
This year’s focus is on the idea of place, demonstrating how games and play help us understand the world around us in new ways. Festival goers will explore different countries and cultures, and critical issues specific to these places ranging from international borders to identity. ‘Are we there yet?’ is an analogue game, ones to play alone or with others. Each visitor can create customised geometric patterns through a simple sequential series of shutter rotations determined by reviewing their day’s journey to Now Play This at Somerset House.
Playdate Office is a multidisciplinary design practice based in Peckham Levels, founded by two Korean designers Myah Chun Grierson and Boyeon Hamilton. With a particular interest in experiencing information accessibly and intuitively, Playdate Office inquires ways of embedding information in everyday life as physical objects through a rigorous exploration of materials and the environment. Since 2016, Playdate Office has been working across cultural and commercial sectors. Their works has been presented at Peckham Festival, London Design Festival and the V&A museum.
This is the duos first body of work created start to finish in Peckham Levels, and we have thoroughly enjoyed watching it come together.
