For one night only, Chiminyo brings together some of the finest London-based electronic/jazz musicians to join forces with the vibrant rhythms and soul of Afro-Colombian Bullerengue music.
Expect a powerful evening of dutty improvised LDN grooves colliding with the ancestral chants and drumming of the Caribbean cost of Colombia. A master drummer and cultural bearer, Álvaro Llerena Martinez is the son of legendary singer Petrona Martínez, known as the queen of bullerengue, and a key figure in preserving the ancestral sounds of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, he will be joined by Ákola Tambo, a London based group who have dedicated themselves to studying and spreading the energy of Bullerengue music in europe. This dynamic lineup will create a powerful exchange between old and new, exploring intricate rhythms, hypnotic beats, and spontaneous sonic exploration
