From traditional instruments infused with contemporary sounds to boundary-pushing fusions that defy categorisation - these sessions are a great opportunity to support local musicians in a beautifully intimate setting.
Hailing originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, by way of Manchester, and now settled in North London, this young singer-songwriter and guitarist enjoys a plethora of eclectic influences. Léa’s music fuses soul, high life, bossa-nova, jazz and reggae. She draws inspiration from the likes of reggae icon Bob Marley and Malian artists like Fatoumata Diawara and Rokia Traorè, as well as Nigerian-born UK soul superstar Sade. Léa’s music largely talks about life, love, peace and freedom while reflecting on the state of the world.
Salt Moon is the brainchild of Maya McCourt, a cellist, singer, guitarist and general mixer-upper of traditions old and new. As Salt Moon she plays a beguiling mix of blues, folk, jazz and classical, which weaves in her deep love for traditional songs from across the globe. With tales that will stay with you long after you leave, her music and its shifting time signatures conjure a dreamy melancholy that will enchant and inspire you.
There is an invitation to get your own creative juices flowing in a post-performance open mic/song sharing session - so bring along your instruments! Musicians, performers and listeners all welcome.
