MIDGITTE BARDOT’S PERSONAL SPOT

Dates: Thursday 10 April, 22 May, 19 June

Doors open: 7.30pm - 10pm

Place: The Gig Space, Level 5

Access: There is step-free access via a lift

Our regular night to showcase work from the cutting edge of London's underground performance and art scene is back for another beautiful, messy and full-throated season of entertainment.

Don’t miss the all-singing, sometime-dancing, spirited chaos of Midgitte Bardot and some special guests from the worlds of Live Art, dance, drag, music, and radical hoo-ha.

Midgitte - the hilarious, subversive drag alter-ego of the supremely talented performance artist Tamm Reynolds - has been performing across the UK cabaret, live art, drag, theatre and club spaces since 2016. Midgitte Bardot’s Personal Spot is an evening of drag, performance art, radical weird stuff, liberation from today’s costly world, and a place for performance to buffer and polish.

The show is Midgitte attempting to find herself whilst entertaining you most of the while. Then acts from the city and beyond (amusing you, titillating some, confounding and shaking others to their core).

Thursday 10 April line-up:

The eponymous powerhouse Midgitte Bardot will be back to delight (or desecrate, they’ll decide on the night) your earholes and eyeholes, and joined by two terrifically talented performers, darling danseur Tonny A. and ‘nice c*nt in a hat’ Ms Sharon Le Grand.

Check out their bios below, and book your tickets via DICE now.

TONNY A.

Tonny A. is a French dancer, performer and live artist. He makes live performances sitting often at the margins of dance, physical theatre and performance art to explore the multi-faceted representations of the male body in relation to his own physicality, sexuality and identities.

He has performed his work in theatres, festivals, cabaret nights and dance platforms all around London and beyond, including Bethnal Green's Working Men Club, The Chelsea Theatre, The Blue Elephant Theatre, Resolution! At The Place and SPILL Festival.

Recently, Tonny started to present his work internationally, in Belgium in particular and is currently creating his new solo piece to be shown in Spring 2025.

MS SHARON LE GRAND

Ms Sharon Le Grand is a punky loudmouth, performance artist and born entertainer, originally from Maghull on the outskirts of Liverpool.

They have performed at venues all over London including VFD, The Glory, Shoreditch Town Hall, The Karaoke Hole and the George and Dragon, and starred in critically acclaimed ‘Sound of the Underground’ (by Travis Alabanza) at the Royal Court. They have been featured in magazines such as Dazed & Confused, i-D and Wonderland.

Recently, Sharon launched media conglomerate @smashing.time.london with collaborator Kurtis Lincoln.

DEEPER INTO MOVIES: SECRETS AND LIES

Dates: Wednesday 16 April

Start time: 7.30pm

Space: The Auditorium

Access: There is step-free access via a lift

We’re thrilled to welcome Deeper Into Movies back to Peckham Levels for more expertly curated screenings of cult classics, overlooked gems and important contemporary cinema.

An expert observer of unembellished humanity, writer-director Mike Leigh reached new levels of expressive power and intricacy with this exploration of the deceptions, small and large, that shape our relationships.

When Hortense (Marianne Jean-Baptiste), a black optometrist who was adopted as a child, begins the search for her birth mother, she doesn’t expect that it will lead her to Cynthia (Brenda Blethyn, winner of the Cannes Film Festival’s best actress award), a lonely white factory worker whose tentative embrace of her long-lost daughter sends shock waves through the rest of her already fragile family.

Born from a painstaking process of rehearsal and improvisation with a powerhouse ensemble cast, Secrets & Lies is a Palme d’Or–winning tour de force of sustained tension and catharsis that lays bare the emotional fault lines running beneath everyday lives.

Stripped for Transport is a curation of archival footage from Mark’s last winter and summer spent in Lebanon before moving to London and co-edited with Zsowe to present images from places that no longer exist, not in the way they used to.

Thoughts stripped from the possibility of finding answers to the questions of death, faith and one’s violated access to time and space are met with a score that invokes fear, loss, and a sense of madness.

This is Mark’s first non-academic production, working with Zsowe (Zoe Krynicki and Harmony Vergara) towards an attempt at a cognition of the present social-historical moment and the already visible signs of decay all around.

THE THINGS

Dates: 25 & 26 January

Performance times: 1pm & 4pm

Place: The Auditorium, Levels 5 & 6

Access: There is step-free access via a lift

The latest in Poltergeist Theatre’s immersive London performances, The Things is a clown theatre show for family audiences, inspired by the historical objects uncovered by archaeologists.

The Things are two creatures who have happily lived in the dusty archives of history for, well, nobody knows how long. They dig through the ancient mud of the city, collect their favourite things, and that’s that. But then one day, their treasures of history begin to speak back...

It turns out every object has its own tale to tell.

Join The Things on a journey through time, as they unlock stories that have been buried for centuries. They’ll come across mud-wrestling skeletons, a choir of buried trees, a villainous snail, and much more...

So what are you waiting for? Grab a spade, dig into the dirt, and become part of the fun. By getting lost in the past, what might we learn about ourselves today?

The Things follows hot on the heels of Poltergeist’s acclaimed festive family shows, and is a collaboration between Poltergeist Theatre and MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology), connecting families with archeological finds through interactive comedy performance.

Praise for Poltergeist’s Alice in Wonderland:

★★★★★ “A perfect family show” All That Dazzles

★★★★★ “Perfect for all ages... captured the whole audience” Afridiziak

★★★★★ “A breath-taking instant classic for the London festive season” The Spy in the Stalls

Praise for other Poltergeist shows:

★★★★ “Best shows of the Fringe” The Guardian

★★★★ “Brilliantly inventive” The Stage

For some people, it’s their first time ever speaking in front of a crowd, which makes it even more meaningful and memorable for them. For others, it’s an opportunity to try out their creative juices, and see how a crowd reacts to their story, their comedy, their poetry, or their spoken word.

Theme: Fear

If you have a story to tell, submit your story via their website.

DEEPER INTO MOVIES: ROMEO AND JULIET

DEEPER INTO MOVIES: ROMEO AND JULIET

Dates: Wednesday 28 August

Start time: 7.30pm

Space: The Auditorium

Access: There is step-free access via a lift

We’re thrilled to welcome Deeper Into Movies back to Peckham Levels for more expertly curated screenings of cult classics, overlooked gems and important contemporary cinema.

Baz Luhrmann’s adrenalized, florid, flash-bang adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragedy, featuring Teen Beat-heartthrob-era Leonardo DiCaprio and a fresh from My So-Called Life Claire Danes in the title roles, lays its scene in a present-day “Verona Beach” where the sound of MTV hits on the radio is inescapable, and a shooting war between the rival Montague and Capulet gangs means the constant threat of violence.

With Romeo + Juliet, Luhrmann hotwires an old junior high reading list standby, tapping into the hormonal delirium of the original material via the stylistic conceits of the modern music video and effectively returning Shakespeare to his popular origins.

We’re thrilled to welcome Deeper Into Movies back to Peckham Levels for more expertly curated screenings of cult classics, overlooked gems and important contemporary cinema.

Long before he became an arthouse brand name commanding big budgets, Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things, The Favourite, The Lobster) had his first palpable international success with this, his skin-crawling third film, about a despotic taskmaster father who, for reasons known only to himself, has kept his three adult offspring in a state of perpetual stunted childhood by immuring them inside their fenced-in family compound from which, inspired by an outside visitor, they begin to plot a “jailbreak.”

“Takes the concept of home schooling to squirmy extremes… Dogtooth is like a car crash. You cannot look away.” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"The most beautiful and life affirming thing I've done in a long time." – @jackgarratt

“Wow wow wow. Last night was so so magical. @SpecialGuestLDN has literally changed my view on community and our generation. If you stop to listen to people you can be so inspired.” – @afrocreative

How it works:

  • Listen, clap, cheer. Support your fellow special guests.

'A great storyteller' ★★★★ - One4Review.co.uk

★★★★ - Mervyn Stutter's Pick of the Fringe

Sami Abu Wardeh

One of The Guardian’s top ten comedy acts of 2022, Sami Abu Wardeh is a rising star on the British comedy scene. Having created, written, led and produced his Channel 4 Digital comedy debut The Sheikh as well as his smash hit debut live hour Bedu in partnership with the Soho Theatre, his energetic feel-good character comedy plays as well on screen as it does on stage.

‘Blissfully funny while barely speaking a word’ - The Guardian ★★★★

‘The single funniest face I’ve seen in years.’  - Chortle ★★★★

Adam Flood: Back Of The Spoon

Blah blah blahing about his feelings has, quite honestly, made things worse for Adam Flood. OK sure, he might have won some awards, been on telly and dubbed by The Times as in the Top 3 Rising Stars of the Fringe but things have got to change for the Stoke-on-Trent urchin.

Behold, an anti-mental health show. Do you open a dropped bottle of coke right away - no, you leave it, for a long time before opening up. On a mission to find his own ways to avoid the deep stuff, can Adam distract you, but most of all himself, with fixations on ASMR, football (table), carpentry (table), pigeon watching, and big questions like, ‘do all Dads love marmalade?’ It’s time for Adam to hold a spoon up to society with high energy stand-up, original music and real-life voice notes.

‘Despicably multi-talented’ - Ivo Graham

★★★★★ - The Real Sparkle

★★★★ - Broadway World

★★★★ - Pick of The Fringe
